Character of the Week: Lisbeth Salander

Lisbeth Salander is a computer hacker with a troubled past and a photographic memory. I loved the Millenium Trilogy and am really upset that Steig Larsson is dead and can't write anymore novels featuring Miss Salander. My favorite book in the series is the first one, where Lisbeth becomes a research assistant to a journalist who is trying to solve a really old murder case. I know that everyone is crazy about Noomi Rapace and the Swedish films and was really annoyed by the American remake, but I actually liked David Fincher's version better. I loved Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth and think that she was great, but I really didn't think that the Swedish films were that great. The first one was good, but the film version of The Girl Who Played With Fire was actually kind of boring to me. I knew that the American version would be great with Fincher directing and with Daniel Craig and Christopher Plummer. What I was really curious to see was Rooney Mara as Lisbeth, and she was GREAT! My favorite moment in the whole film:

She really looked the part, and really just became Lisbeth Salander. I am really looking forward to the next two films (which will hopefully also be directed by David Fincher).

Character of the Week: Christian from Moulin Rouge

Yesterday was Valentine's Day, and every Valentine's Day I have a tradition where I watch Moulin Rouge. Moulin Rouge has been one of my favorite movies ever since it came out when I was about 11 years old. I love everything about this movie, but one of my favorite things about it is Ewan McGregor as Christian. I remember being 11 years old and falling madly in love with this fictional character. Christian is a young man who moves to Paris to be a writer and live among the bohemian society. Eventually he fall in love with Satine, a courtesean who is dying of consumption (but he doesn't know that...) He also has a great singing voice and is incredibly gorgeous.

Character of the Week: Katniss Everdeen

This week's character of the week is Katniss Everdeen, "the girl who was on fire." She is a citizen of District 12, which is a part of Panem. She lives in a dystopian future where every year a boy and girl from each district are chosen to be a part of the Hunger Games, where they have to fight to the death. After her younger sister's name is called, Katniss volunteers to take her place in the games. After winning the games along with Peeta Malark, she becomes a sort of poster girl for the rebellion against the Capitol, sort of a female John Connor. In the upcoming film version of The Hunger Games, she is played by Jennifer Lawrence, which I think is really cool because she is one of my favorite young actresses working today. I am super excited to see this movie and I think she will be great.

Character of the Week: Terry Bellefleur

I love a majority of the characters on True Blood and one of my favorites is Terry Bellefleur. Even in the beginning when his role in the show was very small he still had some of the best dialogue like "I can't listen to politicians, it gives me seizures." He is Andy Bellefluer's cousin and is a cook at Merlotte's. He is also a war vet who suffers from PTSD. I just think that it is hilarious that this is the same guy who played Lane's bandmate turned husband on Gilmore Girls. I did not recognize him at all when I started watching this show and I watched Gilmore Girls religiously. I love that he has become a bigger part of the show because everything that he says is just hilarious. My favorite Terry quote is probably when he says to Arlene "I didn't mean to be peculiar at you." I also love the scene shown below.

Character of the Week: Constance Langdon

Constance Langdon could have easily been a character that everybody hated. She is a racist, homophobic, Southerner who murdered her husband, Moira, and told Larry to kill her son Beauregard. Why is it that she is so amazing then? Well, she is wonderfully played by Jessica Lange, who makes her into a villain you just love to hate instead of just plain hate. She had four children, and by the end of the season we find out that three of them are dead (Beau was murdered, Tate was killed by the police after setting Larry on fire and shooting up his school, and Addie was hit by a car) and we never find out about her fourth child. On the very last episode, however, we see that she is now taking care of Tate's child that he had with his girlfriend's mom, and oh yeah, the child turns out to be a murdereous toddler. One of the most heartbreaking moments on the show was after Addie died and Constance went to the morgue to make her a "pretty girl."

Character of the Week: Sheldon Cooper

This week's character of the week is Dr. Sheldon Cooper from one of my favorite shows, The Big Bang Theory. He is a physisist with a genius I.Q. who went to college at a very young age. He has very little social skills and has some obsessive compulsive habits like always having to knock three times and having to sit in the same spot. I love Sheldon because he always says what's on his mind. It's not because he doesn't care how it will affect people, it's because he doesn't think that people should be offended by facts. He is definitely the character with the best dialogue on the show and Jim Parsons is just hilarious as Sheldon.

Character of the Week: Marla Singer

This week's character of the week is Marla Singer. She is portrayed by the lovely Helena Bonham Carter in the film Fight Club. I love her because she is such a total trainwreck. Although this seems like the normal kind of role for Bonham Carter now, before this film she mostly did a lot of period pieces. She was perfect in the English Rose type of role, and Marla Singer was a big departure from that. Marla Singer is someone who, along with Fight Club's protagonist, goes to support group meetings (even for testicular cancer). She is someone who the protagonist believes is sleeping with Tyler Durden, but we soon find out that there is no Tyler Durden! This is one of my favorite of Helena Bonham Carter's roles. She is fantastic playing characters who are batshit crazy, and Marla Singer is definitely that...

Character of the Week: Tate Langdon

This week's character of the week is from one of my favorite new shows, American Horror Story. He is a ghost in the Harmon house who has been dead since 1994. After setting his mom's boyfriend on fire, then shooting up his high school, he was killed by cops at the hauted house. Since he was killed there, he is stuck in that house forever, except for on Halloween which is the only day that the ghosts can leave. What makes Tate interesting is that even though he is a murdererous ghost who got his girlfriend's mom pregnant, he is still absolutely adorable. If you go to Tumblr and check out the posts tagged American Horror Story, you will see a shitload of posts/ gifs about Tate, so I'm not the only one who thinks so.

Character of the Week: Regina George

This week's character of the week is everyone's favorite mean girl, Regina George. I just love her because she is such a bitch and she doesn't even care. This is one of my favorite teen movies and Rachel McAdams is great as the leader of the plastics. She has some of the best dialogue in the movie and is probably the most memorable character from the film.

Character of the Week: Daryl Dixon

This week's character of the week is Daryl Dixon. He is my favorite character on The Walking Dead. The is a crossbow carrying redneck who was originally part of the group with his brother. Unfortunately, his brother was handcuffed and left on a roof and when they went back to find him, they found that he cut his hand off. Recently, he has been helping in the search for Sophia (who they are never going to find.) He is the only one to have gotten a real lead to where she is because he found her doll. He almost died finding that doll, only to come back and be shot by stupid Andrea. While at first he was somewhat of an unlikable character, he is starting to show more of a human side with each episode.

Character of the Week: Selina Kyle

This weeks character of the week is Selina Kyle, who is better known as Catwoman. While I think that Julie Newmar and Eartha Kitt looked stunning in their Catwoman costumes, my favorite person to ever play Selina Kyle was definitely Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman Returns. She went from frumpy secretary to a slinky sexy criminal and she was so badass!



Anne Hathaway has some big shoes to fill in The Dark Knight Rises. Even though I don't really like Hathaway, I am still hoping that she is good because I really want Christopher Nolan's last Batman movie to be good!!!

Character of the Week: Wallace Wells

I have never read any of the Scott Pilgrim comics, but I loved the movie! My favorite character was Kieran Culkin as Wallace Wells. He is Scott's gay roommate who likes to steal people's "straight" boyfriends, stalk actors, and give out advice. The scenes with Wallace are some of the funniest in the whole movie, and he had a way of making scenes better.

Character of the Week: Pam Swynford De Beaufort

This week's character of the week is one of my favorite vampires, Ms. Pam Swynford De Beaufort from True Blood. I've loved Pam since season 1 and I am glad that she is getting more airtime now. I love her because she is such a bitch, but she is also super loyal to her maker Eric. I'm really hoping that in Season 5 we get some backstory on Pam and see when Eric made her a vampire. According to her, she used to be a hooker, so maybe Eric found her in a brothel somewhere...

Character of the Week: Freddy Krueger

"1..2..Freddy's comin' for you, 3...4...better lock your door." One of the most well-known boogiemen in horror is Mr. Freddy Krueger. A child molester and murderer who was burned to death by a mob of angry parents. Then, he went on to haunt teenagers in their dreams. I never really had nightmares as a kid, but when I was younger I used to have to sleep with the door open and the hallway light on because I would see his face outside of my window. The remake of the original Nightmare on Elm Street showed that noone should be allowed to play Freddy except for Robert Englund. I like Jackie Earle Haley, but it just was not the same!!!

Character of the Week: Ragan MacNeil

This week's character of the week is Ragan MacNeil. She is a 12 year old who was possessed by a demon. At first we only get subtle signs of the demon inside her. Ragan is a very happy girl, so her mother finds it strange when she starts swearing at doctors. Then Ragan's bed starts to shake. After a while she completely transforms into this grotesque creature. After seeing dozens of doctors and psychologists, her mother decides to go to a priest and ask him to perform an exorcism on Ragan.



Instead of getting rid of the demon completely, the younger priest takes the demon into his body and then throws himself out the window.

Character of the Week: Chucky

This week's character of the week is Charles Lee Ray, aka Chucky. He was a murderer who used voodoo to put his soul into a Good Guy doll. Child's Play was one of my favorite horror movies when I was a kid, and the VHS cover actually used so scare the crap out of me. I remember whenever I would see it in my uncle's room, I would have to turn the cover away from me. I mean, look at it! It is creepy as hell! Anyways, this kid Andy's mom buys the doll from this homeless man because her son really wants it.


Then, people start dying. At first, they believe that it is Andy because noone believes him that Chucky can talk. Eventually though, they do find out that he is alive and he ends up murdering people for four more movies because, just like Michael, Freddy, and Jason, he just does not die!!!

Character of the Week: Pamela Voorhees

"Jason was my son, and today is his birthday." While the Friday the 13th movies are best known for her son Jason Voorhees, he wasn't actually the killer until Part 2. The killer in the first movie was his crazy mother Pamela. After she believes that her son drowned to death, she goes insane and starts hearing voices telling her to kill people. She kills two of the camp counselors because she believes them responsible for her son's death, and then kills several other people over twenty years later. "Look what you DID TO HIM!"

Character of the Week: Indiana Jones

This week's character of the week is everyones favorite archeology professor, Dr. Jones. He is portrayed by the incredibly handsome Harrison Ford in four movies, of which my favorite is the first film Raiders of the Lost Ark. When I was a kid my favorite Indiana Jones film was actually Temple of Doom, but I think that that was just because that was the one I saw the most. I grew up watching Indiana Jones films, and have always been a huge fan of Harrison Ford. Here is my favorite Indiana Jones moment, which is also one of the most badass moments in film history.

Character of the Week: Christiane Génessier

This week's character of the week is Christiane Genessier, who was portrayed by Edith Scob in one of my favorite films, Eyes Without a Face. She is a girl who is forced to wear a white mask after an accident leaves her without any skin on her face. Her father is a doctor who is set on getting her a new face by killing innocent girls and replacing her face with theirs. Christiane is a sweet girl who is horrified by how she looks, and wants a new face, but by the end she realizes that what her father is doing is wrong. What I love about this film is that it is not the person with the deformity who is the monster, but the person who is trying to help her. Here is one of my favorite scenes in the movie.

Character of the Week: Magneto

This week's character of the week is Erik Lensherr a.k.a Magneto. He is a mutant who has the power to manipulate metal, and is one of my favorite X-Men characters. He has been played by both Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender, who are both actors that I love. I actually took the bus downtown to go to Target on Friday just so I could get my copy of X-Men:First Class. You had a choice of what cover you could get, so I of course chose the one with Magneto on the cover.

Poor little Erik Lensherr grew up in a Nazi concentration camp which is where he discovered his mutant powers. He grew up to be an incredibly handsome man so was set on killing Sabastian Shaw, the man who murdered his mother.

While he starts out as an ally to Charles Xaviar, he soon realizes that as a mutant, he is better than the human race, and doesn't agree with Charles's sympathies towards the humans.



As he grows older, he becomes more and more of a villian.



Unfortunately for Charles, he loses his powers at the end of X-Men 3, due to the "cure." But, at the end we do get a hint of it coming back when he moves the chess piece...I'm sure that I'm not the only one hoping for an X-Men 4!!! I would also love an X-Men: First Class 2. I'm always down for more McAvoy and Fassbender! Plus I'm really curious to see Magneto and Mystique's relationship grow even more.
