Creepiest Trees

My parent's house is surrounded by trees, so in my bedroom growing up I would always see the shadows of trees coming through my blinds. For some reason, this would always freak me out and I wouldn't be able to sleep because I would be imagining that the branches were moving and coming through the window. Even to this day, I still find trees to be a little creepy. I must not be the only one because there are a bunch of movies that have creepy ass trees. Here are the ones that I think are the creepiest.
Hanging Tree from The Nightmare Before Christmas

While he doesn't have a very big role in the movie, he does have quite a presence with his deep voice and the skeleton's hanging off of him. "Everybody scream, everybody SCREAM!"



Grabbing Tree from Santa Claus is Coming To Town

He is a minion of the Winter Warlock, who holds the future Santa Claus hostage when Winter finds him going by his mountain. But, according to Winter, his "bark is worse than his bite."

Talking Trees from Wizard of Oz

Probably the grumpiest trees ever. How was Dorothy supposed to know that trees didn't like having their apples picked?



Treebeard

If I was climbing a tree and then suddenly saw that it had eyes, I would probably shit my pants. BTW, I love this part because Billy Boyd makes the best scared face ever when he first notices that Treebeard is alive.



Rapist Tree from Evil Dead

Yikes...this one gives me the heebie jeebies. Every time I watch this scene I can't help but go "AAAAGH!!!" This tree tangles itself around her, rips her clothes off, and then, uh well you know... I mean, damn, what could feel worse than that?



Boy-Eating Tree from Poltergeist

This is the one that freaked me out the most when I was a kid just because I trees close to my window. I watched this movie all the time, and while most people freak out during the clown scene, this is the scene that always scared me. It's creepy enough that it bursts through the window, but when it starts EATING him...yeesh...

Spotlight On: Sam Raimi

This week's character of the week is one of my favorite horror directors. Sam Raimi is the director of the amazing Evil Dead trilogy, and that just makes him awesome in my book. I loved all three of them, as well as some other films that he has made. If I see a movie with Raimi's name attached to it, I just know that it is going to be really cool. Here are my favorites of his films.

The Evil Dead

No matter how many times I watch this movie, the scene where the girl gets raped by the tree always gets to me. You just see it whip its way in and every time I just go "aaaaarrrrgggghhhhhhh!!!!!" It gives me the heebie jeebies. Yikes! Anyways, I love this movie and all of the Evil Dead movies because they have good amounts of gore as well as being wonderfully over the top.





Evil Dead II

I've actually gotten into arguments over this movie. People always try to say that this is a remake instead of a sequel, but god dammit it's a sequel! The only reason why the beginning is exactly the same as the first one is because they are recapping everything that happened. They wanted to show clips from the first movie, but they couldn't for some reason. Anyways, this movie shows the rare occasion when the sequel is actually better than the original.





Darkman

In Darkman, Liam Neeson plays a disfigured man who becomes a superhero! I saw this movie once, and I thought that it was pretty badass. If you're gonna have anyone play a masked hero, it has to be someone with a great speaking voice, and Liam Neeson definitely has that...



Army of Darkness

This movie definitely goes more the comedy route than the horror route. Regardless of this (or because of this?) this movie is still amazing. It's got Bruce Campbell kicking ass with his chainsaw hand, and a whole army of deadites. Love it!



Spider-Man

I REALLY didn't like the third Spider-Man movie, but I did like the first two. I still find myself quoting Bonesaw all the time. "You're going nowhere!" And...you can't beat that upside down kiss!!



Spider-Man 2

Another example of a good sequel. Although I do like the first one better, this one is really good too...



Drag Me To Hell

I absolutely love this movie! It is creepy, hilarious, terrifying, over the top, and disgusting, and was one of the greatest horror movies to come out in the past decade. I remember being very vocal the first time I saw this movie. I was watching it with a big group of friends and we were all laughing and screaming and yelling out in disgust. It was awesome! It has the greatest ending, and I love how baby-faced Alison Lohman gets her badass moment in the graveyard scene when she says "Goodbye!"





Upcoming: his next film is called Oz: The Great and Powerful and it looks really cool. It has the most awesome cast including James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams, and Bruce Campbell. Can't wait!

Character of the Week: Ash Williams

This week's character of the week is everyones favorite horror icon, Ashley J. Williams from Evil Dead, Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness. He goes from fighting deadites in a cabin in the woods to being trapped in medieval times fighting a whole army of them. He is pretty much the definition of awesome with his chainsaw hand and his one-liners played by the amazing Bruce Campbell. The Evil Dead movies are some of my favorites, and that is mostly due to Campbell's performance of Ash. He is great at physical comedy and makes even the corniest lines sound cool...

Evil Dead: The Musical

Holy crap, this show was fantastic. It combines two things that I love: Evil Dead and musicals. For my Acting for Non Majors class we need to see a show and write a paper on one of the actors so, of course, I decided to see Evil Dead: The Musical. It was all kinds of cheesy, but thats what made it so great. It combined the plots of Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2, and had some of the more famous lines from Army of Darkness which included many of these...


The guy who played Ash was no Bruce Campbell, but he did a pretty good job. There was blood spattering galore, and there were even "splatter seats" where the cast members were aiming their blood spurts, and where they also had tubes surrounding them that splattered them with blood. The songs were also really fun, and were made better by the dances that went with them. One song in particular has been stuck in my head since the show ended, and thats Do the Necronomicon....check it out!
