New Wonder Woman TV Show?

Tuesday, October 5, 2010 0 comments
I don't know what the problem is with Warner Brothers, or DC comics, or whatever, where they can't seem to get a Wonder Woman movie made. In the next few years a shitload of superhero movies are coming out, with The Green Lantern, Thor, Captain America, The Avengers, X-Men: First Class, reboots of Spiderman, Superman, and The Fantastic Four, and The Untitled Batman Sequel. I mean, what the hell? Why do all of these movies get made and not Wonder Woman? So, instead of giving her her own movie, they're making another Wonder Woman TV show. I suppose something is better than nothing, though... So, since reading about this this morning, I've been thinking about who would be good candidates for Wonder Woman? Heres who I had in mind.

Keri Russell: She's already voiced Wonder Woman in the straight to DVD animated movie that came out last year, so why not use her voice AND that pretty face of hers. Though, shes not exactly thought of as a badass, I think shes got it in her to play a superhero and would make a great Wonder Woman.

Zooey Deschanel: Although shes known for playing more quirky characters, I think that she would be great in the action genre as well. Plus, I know from that Halloween episode of Bones that her sister looks great in a Wonder Woman costume, so I know that she would too.

Alexa Devalos: She is an actress who isn't that well-known, but is someone that I really liked in movies like Defiance and Clash of the Titans. I think that she would do a kick-ass job with her own TV show, and also, she has a really great look that would be perfect for Wonder Woman.

Zoe Bell: And last, but not least, is my favorite stuntwoman Zoe Bell. She has been a stuntdouble for Xena and The Bride from Kill Bill, so I know she could kick some serious ass as a superhero. Plus, as Death Proof and Whip It have shown, she can act as well.

Horror-A-Day: Day Four/ My Review: Let Me In

I'm going to start this out by saying that I really loved the original film. Let the Right One In is, in my opinion, the best vampire movie ever made. So, when I read that a remake was being made I thought that this was a rediculous idea and completely unnecessary, which I still believe is true. Having said that, though, I did enjoy this movie. I think that it has a wonderful cast with Chloe Moretz (who I loved in Kick-Ass) and Kodi Smit-McPhee (who was great in The Road). Richard Jenkins is also great in this movie even though his role is really small. Other than a change of actors and location, this movie was basically the same as the original with a few changes. Like, for instance, there are a lot more horror elements added. Whenever Eli attacked someone in the original, you saw it mostly from far away, wasn't all that graphic, and the sound was the main thing. In this movie, however, Abby tears them apart. She jerks them all over the place and her face changes into this demonic look. Another difference was in the way the guardian was caught. In the original he gets caught in the school by his victims friends, and in this movie he does this thing where he sneaks in the back of their car with a bag over his head (why?) and attacks them, then gets caught because he gets in a car accident with his potential victim. I suppose these car scenes were to give Richard Jenkins more screen time because in the original you didn't see how he caught people.
Like I said, other than those few changes, the story was basically the same. Like when Abby enters Owen's room after coming from the hospital. There was basically no difference in that entire scene, except for more close ups of Abby. I didn't expect them to change a whole lot, since it is such an amazing story, but I was kind of hoping that in the remake they would add more about Abby and her guardian. Not just because I like Richard Jenkins, which I do, but because that was the one thing I would've changed about the original. They do have a photo of Abby with her guardian when he was young, which was a nice touch, but I really wanted more backstory. I guess I'll have to read the book for that, if its even in there.
I would not have made a single change to the pool scene from the original because I think that it was perfect the way it was, with us not seeing anything, and only hearing what Oskar hears. What they did in this movie though, was add a lot more and made it a lot more bloody and violent. That was unnecessary, but I must admit, still looked really cool. So, even though I do prefer the original movie, I really liked this one as well. The casting was perfect, especially the two leads who were great together, and I really just love this story.  My rating: 9/10

Horror-A-Day: Day Three

When are people in horror movies gonna learn not to trust strangers? There are tons and tons of horror movies that feature people getting killed by a crazy family, and this is no exception. This movie is sort of a Texas Chainsaw Massacre meets The Hills Have Eyes except a lot more violent. I don't know why, but I just can't handle seeing someone's Achilles tendon get cut in a movie, it just freaks me out. I actually really liked this movie, though. Towards the end I was definitely rooting for Yasmin to kill all those crazy Germans and get the hell out of there.

Photos of Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander

Here are some photos of what Lisbeth Salander will look like in the remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I'm really excited for this movie, but I'm not really sure if thats a good look for her or not...

Also, some more casting news: Christopher Plummer has been cast as Henrik Vanger. This cast just keeps getting better and better with Plummer, Daniel Craig, Stellen Skarsgard, and Robin Wright. So, the deciding factor for whether this movie will be good or not, from an acting standpoint anyway, is Rooney Mara. Will she make a good Lisbeth Salander?

I liked this movie. I think that the Phantom of the Opera-esque story is pretty cool, and whole pins taped under eyes thing is really creepy. I was getting so mad at the main girl, though, because there were so many chances for her to just get away, but she just stands there being all damsel in distress. The murder scenes in this movie are really great-looking, especially the stage managers murder. That shot of the knife going through his jaw and seeing the tip of it in his mouth is amazing. There were some things about this movie that I found a little odd though. Like for starters, the use of 80's style metal music during the murders, and scenes where shes running. Call me old fashioned, but I like a normal horror movie score in the background. Also, I don't understand why the voices needed to be dubbed since they're all speaking English. I never would've noticed except that the guy playing the stage manager is the killer from Copycat, and that definitely was not his voice.

Horror-A-Day: Day One

In honor of Halloween, all through the month of October I'm going to do Horror-A-Day, where every day I will watch a horror movie that I have never seen before. So, by the end of the month I will have seen 31 horror movies for the first time. Since its after midnight, it is technically the 2nd, but I'm going to count it as the 1st since I started the movie at 11 pm. Todays movie:
I didn't really find this movie's story all that great, and the acting was absolutely terrible. I believe that in a horror movie you should want the characters to survive, but all of the characters were just really stupid, so I really didn't even care.  Having said that, there were some neat parts in this movie. The part where he pulled that older womans face apart like a pez dispenser looked really cool, especially with the tongue sticking out. Also, it was cool how it had cameos by Tony Todd and Robert Englund.

P.S. I really didn't find Victor Crowley all that scary because his face looked like rubber and he reminded me of the purple slime guy from Ghost Writer that used to scare my little sister.
