Spotlight On: Joan Jett

This week's spotlight is on the Queen of Rock n Roll herself, Ms. Joan Jett. Every since I was a little kid I have loved Joan Jett. I thought that she was the coolest chick alive, and to this day, I still do. From when she was the rhythm guitarist of The Runaways, to her kick ass solo career, I have loved everything that Joan Jett has done. Here are some of my favorite songs...

So, as you can see...Joan Jett is the coolest, most badass rocker chick in history. I basically aspire to be her, but unfortunately I can't sing or play guitar... What makes her even more badass is that she is still rockin, and still looks good too!!! Joan Jett, wherever you are in world, know that I love you!!

My Review: The Fighter

Mark Wahlberg is effin sexy. Just thought that everyone should know... Anyways, this movie was really really good. It tells the story of boxer Micky Ward and his older brother Dicky. Dicky is sort of a town legend because he knocked out Sugar Ray Leonard, and is also Micky's trainer and a crack addict. This movie tells the tale of how Micky went from being a "stepping stone" to being welterweight champion of the world. While I'm not a particularly big fan of boxing, I always get really into boxing movies. When they are in the ring, and getting the crap kicked out of them, I always get stressed, and when they start winning, I always get really excited. During the first fight when he was getting his ass kicked, I seriously thought I was going to have a heart attack, and at the end, I almost cried. Anyways, this movie has great performances from all of the leads, Wahlberg, Christian Bale, Amy Adams, and Melissa Leo. Bale and Leo totally deserved their Golden Globes, and I'm surprised that Wahlberg wasn't nominated, because I think that he did a great job too. And I'm not just saying that because I think that he is damn fine, which I do...because he is. Well anyways, if I saw this movie when it was still 2010, this definitely would have made it in my top ten of 2010 list because it is a really great movie with really great performances, and is definitely a film I would recommend. My rating: 9/10

More Batman Casting News....

What the fuck???? Apparently Christopher Nolan has cast Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman.  While I think that she is really pretty and will look great in the Catwoman costume, I am bothered a bit by this casting choice. For starters, I thought that they were looking for a Vicki Vale and a Talia Al Ghul, so this came as a total surprise. Second, I'm not really a Anne Hathaway fan. Here are ten people who I think would be better choices for Catwoman....

Rachel Weisz

Diane Kruger

Rose McGowan

Abbie Cornish

Naomi Watts

And even at her age, I think that Michelle Pfeiffer would be a much better choice. She was fantastic as Catwoman in my favorite Batman movie Batman Returns.

I also found out that the role that Tom Hardy has been cast as is Bane. BANE!?!?!? I can't believe that Bane is even in this movie!

I mean, when I think of Bane, I don't think of a handsome British man. I think of the mexican wrestler looking dude from Batman and Robin, aka worst Batman movie ever.

So, WTF??? I'm kind of skeptical about The Dark Knight Rises. While I was hoping that Catwoman would be the villain, I'm not too pleased with the casting choice. Also, I'm curious as to how Tom Hardy will look as Bane.... I guess I'll have to wait to find out....

Just Finished Reading: Jane Eyre

I loved this book. I've never really been much of a fan of Victorian era novels, but I really loved Jane Eyre. It's sort of a mix of a romance and a drama, with some gothic elements as well. I read this entire 350 page book in the span of a day, which to me is a very short amount of time. It usually takes me a week, and sometimes much longer to finish a book. I've been reading Geek Love for what feels like forever now, and I'm not even half-way done with it. This book, on the other hand, I could not put down. What made it so interesting was probably the fact that there were different parts to it. There was Jane living with her aunt, Jane at school, Jane becoming a governess and falling for Mr. Rochester, Jane discovering she has family, and Jane back with Rochester. The love story, while it has a happy ending, is also really tragic. While reading it I just knew something was going to happen to fuck up Jane and Rochester's wedding, and as it turned out I was right. I never would have imagined that it was because he was already married, though, and to a lunatic, no less! Fortunately, Jane gets to marry her love, but only after horrible things had occurred. He is newly single because his wife committed suicide, and on that same night he lost both his vision and one of his hands. Jane doesn't care about this though, because she loves him so much, so in the end they get married and live happily ever after.
What led me to read this book was that I've always wanted to read something by one of the Bronte sisters, and also because I wanted to read it before the movie comes out in March. When I saw the trailer I thought that it looked really interesting, and darker than most period movies. I've read that they're playing up the supernatural elements of the novel, which I think should be really cool. Anyways, after reading the novel I am really excited about seeing the movie. With Mia Wasikowska as Jane Eyre and Michael Fassbender as Mr. Rochester it should be really good.

Character of the Week: Austin Powers

This week's character of the week is everyone's favorite International Man of Mystery: Austin "Danger" Powers. The three Austin Powers movies are, in my opinion, some of the funniest movies of all time. No matter how many times I've seen the first one, it still manages to make me laugh and I always discover something new thats funny. Like, for example I noticed a little a while ago that when he is talking to Vanessa about her mom he says, "But unfortunately, that train has sailed...." I've seen that movie a million times before that and never noticed it, so I just busted out laughing. My all-time favorite Austin Powers line has got to be when he's in the hot tub with Alotta Fagina after he farts. She says "How dare you break wind before me?" and he replies with "Sorry, baby, I didn't know it was your turn." Brilliant! Mike Myers is a comedic genius in my opinion. While I have never seen The Love Guru, and didn't think that The Cat in the Hat was that great, I love Austin Powers and Wayne's World.
